Janie Stamm was born on the soft and sandy shores of Miami Beach and raised in the heart of the Everglades. She draws inspiration from the creatures she interacted with growing up such as alligators and snakes, which many people misunderstand.    Janie graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2011 with BFAs in Printmaking and Animation.  She moved to Chicago shortly after to pursue a job working for Tony Fitzpatrick at Black Shamrock Press. After four years of living in Chicago, Janie returned to Florida for an extended stay in the spring of 2016 to recharge and focus on making art that reminded her of home. She spent every possible second immersed in Florida’s nature. She slogged through cypress domes, witnessed male alligators bellow and perform their ritualistic water dance, and took a moonlit bike ride through the Everglades.   Janie has since returned to Chicago and her goal is to make a piece of art every day. She’s done this with her Snake-A-Day and Object-A-Day projects.  Her work has been shown across the country, from New York to Chicago to Los Angeles and can be found on the cover of Poetry  magazine’s December 2016 issue.
